Blogger vs Wordpress- Who’s The Boss?
Millions of blogs are setup every day with the hoop of making a big name for themselves and earning some good money online. Now when starting with blogging you’d obviously want the best possible start, right? But how can we start of good? Well, it’s just as simple as snapping your fingers. Take the time to choose a good platform with the right features and possibility to customize your blog without getting a headache. There has always been a debate about which blogging platform is the best. Without any doubt blogger and wordpress have been the biggest and most popular platforms for blogging. I have used both Blogger and Wordpress in the past and have been pretty satisfied with both platforms. While Blogger is known for its simplicity and smooth interface for creating blogs in 5 minutes, Wordpress is well known for its powerful features and is more suitable for the more advanced blogger. Even though many people argue about which platform is better, I personally think that each person is different and has a different taste.
If your wanting to setup a quick blog in 10 minutes without the hassle of dealing with any coding then Blogger is best suitable for you, however if you want to have powerful features and want more control over your blog then I’d say you should go for Wordpress.
My main reason for writing this post is to help you decide and see which platform is better and most suitable for you.
1. Blogger
Blogger is maybe one of the best known blogging platforms because it’s owned by the mighty Google. As said before, blogger is easy to set up and you could have your blog setup in a matter of minutes. Many people like to choose blogger because they say that blogspot blogs get indexed much faster than other blogging platforms because it’s owned by google. It’s also said that if you create a blog with BlogSpot and apply for AdSense you will be approved very fast. One personal thing I pretty much hate is that you can’t really create categories on your blog. This can be irritating for visitors as they will find it hard to navigate and won’t be able to find related posts to what there reading.
Blogger Pros:
- Free hosting
- Drag and drop widgets for easy customization
- Simplicity to setup a blog in a matter of minutes
- Good start for a newbie
- Easy to place Google Adsense ads
- Owned by google
- Gets indexed fast in search engines
- Smooth and easy interface
Blogger Cons:
- Limited powerful features
- Lack of good free templates
- Can’t categorize your posts
- Need extensive coding knowledge to create or add features
- Domain doesn’t look professional
- It’s annoying to leave comments
2. Wordpress
I personally think Wordpress is more suitable for the more serious bloggers. You can choose if you want a free hosted blog or a self hosted blog, but I recommend using the self hosted blog if you really want to benefit from all the features available. There are also tons of features available and not to forget there are also more than enough templates available for free or for a price. The good thing about Wordpress is that almost 90% of web designers always prefer creating Wordpress websites because it has loads of features and you have more control to customize the code. So getting custom made templates for Wordpress won’t be a problem. The only negative thing I can think of is that you can’t use AdSense on free hosted sites on wordpress.
Wordpress Pros:
- Free Wordpress software
- Tons of cool features
- Easy to find web designers for Wordpress
- Thousands of free quality templates to choose from
- Is highly customizable, if you know some coding you can change anything you like
- Easy to install and setup if u use one click fantastico
- Lot of support available in forums or fellow members
- Easy to use admin panel
Wordpress Cons:
- May require a learning curve for beginners
- May be to advanced for begginers
- Not allowed ads or advertisements on free hosted Wordpress
My conclusion is that if you’re looking to establish a quickie site and want a short term blog that is quick, easy and free to set up then you should book a ticket with Blogger, but if you’re looking to establish a long term blog with the idea of earning good money then you should go for Wordpress.
I personally think Wordpress is better overall in every aspect. I simple just love the fantastic features and plug ins Wordpress offers as it makes life much easier. Also most designers know how to customize Wordpress, so getting unique themes created won’t be a problem.
So which blogging platform do you use? Why do you like Blogger or Wordpress?

I was thinking of writing a post very similar to this a few days back. LOL
I think Blogger is very good for like say quick blogs, or real beginners.. But I think with the tools and help available today, that anyone can do it if they want to.
Wordpress looks more professional, and it has a ton more features than available on blogger blogs.
I’d go with a cup of patience and wordpress!

Yep, Wordpress is actually my favorite as well, it has tons of features. I think blogger is better for quich blogs or beginner, but as soon as you want to be taken serieus, it;s probably best to get a own hosted domain and use the Wordpress cms.

I can’t believe that blogger blogs will get indexed faster just because they are owned by Google. If they do get indexed faster, it’s because of some other mechanism that other sites should also be able to implement – of course not immediately it if also requires some off-site stuff to happen, that you’re not in control of.

Yes, I read on a few blogs that blogger blogs get indexed faster as their owned by Google, but i think that you can get any blog indexed as long as you do the required stuff to get it indexed.

I am a Wordpress fan all the way… but I did try Blogger when it first came out and it is easy to use. I agree with Klaus that I do not believe Blogger gets indexed faster than Wordpress in Google, and I believe I have read more than a few articles that says that is not true too… but I am not positive.

Nice to know your opinion,
I’ve actually read a few blogs that say that Blogger blogs get indexed faster. However the situation could have changed as the rules could have possible changed. I will check on this and see what I can find. But it does seem kind of logical to get Blogger blogs indexed faster, their owned by Google and Google obviously prefer them and want Blogger to do well.

This is one of the most comprehensive side-by-side comparisons of Wordpress and Blogger that I’ve seen. Nice work, but I think, hands down, Wordpress is better. It’s good to familiarize yourself with both, but if you aim to make money with a blog (it’s hard work), Wordpress is the obvious choice. Blogger is far too restrictive in terms of features, though it would make for a fine personal blog. If you’re not sure where your blog will go in terms of growth and features, go with Wordpress.

When you consider to start free hosted version of wordpress, think twice or thrice about its pros and cons. You can’t use javascript anywhere in your free hosted wordpress blog. Most of the useful codes comes in java. Google adsense, Google analytics, adbrite ad codes, cbproads codes, statscounter codes etc etc available in only java. So bloggers should avoid free hosted wordpress blog, if really want to monetize & analyze their blog. Go always self hosted version of wordpress blog. I am writing posts about how to start a self hosted wordpress blog easily & freely in my blog http://www.RedisRed.com . Soon posts will be published.

It’s a commen situation that new bloggers always start of using blogspot, as i also did the same, but when you see that you have reached your potential then I think most bloggers move to wordpress and start being serieus. Also with the many features wordpress offers, it’s hard for blogger to beat.

I 110% agree with what you just said Gary!
Blogger is great for getting your feet wet in the blogging world but if your goal is to keep a great blog you have to start out with wordpress over blogger.

I disagree with WordPress being to advanced.
I takes a half hour to get into the system – if you need help to set up the blog, you just go to WordPress.tv – or YouTube..
It’s clean and clear.
